The Gifts of God for the People of God
What spiritual gift has God given you to offer your church community? Public discourse? Hospitality? Service? Administration? Healing? Compassion? Listening?
We have all been given the spiritual gifts necessary to build up the body of Christ. We are all called to offer the gifts God has given us to build up the body of Christ. As St. Paul says in his first letter to the Church in Corinth
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Many of these ministries take place on Sunday mornings and are necessary for worship to happen. Others are essential to the mission and ministry of Satin Anna’s. Please consider how God is calling you to participate. No matter whether you think you have a spiritual gift or not, there is something you can do, as the list below demonstrates.
If you possess the gift of…
· Administration, consider becoming a counter who counts the collection each week and notes it for the treasurer, or volunteer to help with administrative tasks. Or volunteer to lock up, which involves tidying up the sanctuary after church and making sure all doors and windows are closed and locked. Or join the facilities committee and take care of our building and grounds.
· Encouraging/Exhorting, or Faith, or Mercy, or Wisdom, consider becoming a lay pastoral visitor and visit shut-ins, and those who are sick or lonely.
· Evangelism, consider joining a newcomer ministry.
· Giving, consider joining the stewardship or budget committee. Or volunteer for Mission Possible. Or consider volunteering to take the food we collect each Sunday to a local food bank.
· Healing, consider joining the healing ministry.
· Hospitality or leadership, consider becoming a greeter or an usher, who show up 30 minutes before church begins to prepare the sanctuary and greet people as they arrive as well as various duties during the service. Or a Digital Greeter, who shows up on zoom 15 minutes before worship to greet anyone joining us for worship on zoom, answers any questions they might have, screen-shares the bulletin during worship, and then spends about 15 minutes after the service “chatting’ with people. Or joining the hospitality team and setting up, serving, and cleaning up after coffee hour.
· Prophecy consider participating in Sacred Ground or getting involved with justice work.
· Teaching consider becoming a reader or joining a bible study group.
· Service consider joining the altar guild and helping to prepare everything for worship and make our chancel beautiful each week.
