Season of Creation III
Dear Friends in Christ,
This third week of the Season of Creation, we are invited to act. The prophet Isaiah said,
Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19.
Biodiversity is being lost at a rate not seen since the last mass extinction. The futures of young people are threatened by the cascading impacts of the loss of biodiversity and a changing climate. It is easy to feel helpless and overwhelmed and become immobilized by the scope of the problem, to wonder what we can do and how our small actions could possibly make a difference. But we are people of faith, who believe that with God anything is possible (Matthew 19:26). And so, as the urgency grows,
“…we must make visible peace with Earth and on Earth, at the same time that justice calls us to repentance and a change of attitude and actions. As we join the river of justice and peace with others then hope is created instead of despair.”[i]”
And so, this Season of Creation I invite you to reflect on one small thing you might do to walk more lightly on this earth, and then to do it. It might be to eliminate single use plastic, or to pick up trash on your daily walk. Or to buy an electric vehicle next time you purchase a new car. Or take public transit where available. There are so many small things we can each do that added up make a huge difference. Imagine if each person of faith did something to protect God’s creation and save our earth, the difference we could make!

Yours in Christ,
Rev. Jane+
